Why is it server based

Theres no reason why this game should require a constant server connection. The reason this is a problem is that the servers are horrible and I constantly find myself stuck at the level up screen because it fails to send my character to the server forcing me to shut the app and replay the level. Ive also experienced a couple glitches which cause the entire screen to go black for no reason mid game.
